What this specialty covers.

A gynaecological check-up assesses the patient's gynaecological health, provides preventive follow-up and investigates certain symptoms or disorders where they are present. Tests are tailored to each patient's age, history and situation.

Many patients arrive having put up with symptoms for months for want of an appointment. The check-up brings the consultation, the imaging and the laboratory work together in one stay, and the results are given face to face. You may ask to be seen by a female practitioner: say so in your file.

What patients ask us.

Yes, state it in your file or tell your adviser. We confirm before you travel whether the request can be met for all the examinations, ultrasound included.

Some tests, such as the smear, are done outside menstruation. Others, such as a hormone profile, must be done on a precise day of the cycle. Give us the date of your last period with your file: the schedule is built from that.

Tell us straight away. Pregnancy rules out certain tests, in particular mammography and X-rays. The programme is then adapted and obstetric care takes over.

No, in the great majority of cases. An abnormal smear calls for a colposcopy and sometimes a biopsy to clarify the nature of the cells. That follow-up test can, where indicated, be done during the same stay.

Have your file read before you decide.

A doctor reviews it and tells you what is possible, what is not and what it involves. With no commitment on your part.
